florida icicles

These pictures are of our orange trees, after one of our Febuary freezes. (yes, fl gets freezes every winter). Orange season runs Dec.-March. But they're not freeze hardy trees. You have 2 options to keep your oranges from getting destroyed: 1)Cover them with frostcloth or 2) Run your hose all night so the water freezes on the plants. (this also keeps your pipes from freezing and consequently bursting) I forget the scientific explanation of how freezing trees with water keeps them from "freezing"... Every year, I beg to hang a hose in the branches so we can make icicles. We never do. But this year, the trees were too big to cover. The next morning, we went out and took pics of the rare sight. (actually, i doubt they'll be shrinking so we'll have to do this every year now.)
There you have the not-so-strange tale of how we get icicles in Florida. They melt rather fast. But it's fun while it lasts. (especially the standing around in 30 degrees in flip flops. not wisdom.)

Delian said…
grapefruit pop? (yes, I call it pop sometimes as well!) that (personally) sounds disgusting... but yeah, I've never had it before so I'd better not judge it.

Anonymous said…
that was the only reason i liked it. besides the great music and scenery.

speaking of teal sharpies...i sharpied my pinkie again the other day for the randomness of it.
have my green and pink sharpies been lost yet?
joel sczebel said…
no, they're not lost.
I could give you your teal one back at Na since you like it so much.
overthinker said…
Hahahaha. that would be very sweet of you if only i didn't HAVE my teal one with me. remember, you exchanged with me right before we left. cause i was being a whining hoser. you have my green one.
and josh had my pink one.

i had a post all written out...and it wasn't too long, but it was like iced tea on a summer day...only it didn't post. my pc is acting up and i'm being called for dinner. maybe i can right a good post afterwards.

(i wouldn't say the one i wrote was good, but it flowed so nicely it's a shame i lost it.)

overthinker said…
you didn't HAVE to give it back. you CHOSE to.
joel sczebel said…
Well that's believing the best, now isn't it?

it's too bad because the lime one doesn't work on fingernails.
Delian said…
when I met dami she had a teal colored pinkie... hahaha. Good times.
Aly Sczebel said…
we all do. i have the original pink one. and i am holding it for ransom. no one will ever use it, and it is NOT going to na. as long as i can't be there, it can't either. tuff love.
Anonymous said…
aaaawwww man. i thought it would be fun to trade and give ya'll the original teal in exchange for teh pink...but i guess not. (the original teal is pretty worn out anyway)

...Well it's about time! ;-) I've been wondering when we'd get a new post, since I became slightly addicted to your blog several nights ago! (ahhh, now you know who I am! Should we keep your friends guessing? Or would it be a horrible letdown for them to learn I'm just a friend of your mom's? :) ...Just another mom who stumbled across your blog (or rather, clicked and followed a direct link! ;) and has been amazed to get to know a bit better the girl I've witnessed grow up before our eyes. One thing I meant to mention on Tuesday (when I acted like such a gushing groupie ;) is how much I SO enjoyed your posts about Grace Church. Your anticipation for it, heart to serve in it, and just your sincere LOVE, for first Christ, and also His Church, really inspire me and give me MUCH hope! Hope for it's future and for my own daughter who so looks up to you. It's so much more of a joy now to serve alongside you. You possess such a beautiful heart and it is so evident in all of your posts. Thank you for allowing me a little glimpse into your life. It's encouraging for this youngish mom to see the fruit of her friends' efforts, by observing such obvious grace and maturity in your life.

I was going to wait until you posted again before leaving a comment, but you took too long! :) (Amen?) I promise not to intrude in your online world TOO often.

Looking forward to your next post!

Do I get a prize for longest comment? :)

Wow, that's cool. We have a couple people on one side who were in the Navy, like my Grandpa who just stepped through the door right here actualy, he was in a bunch of wars and stuff, and he got shot down in Vietnam and spent about five years eating nothing but boiled cabbage and bannans.

So what's all this about running off to Alaska?
